White Plains is a city of wonderful contrasts. The corporate buildings are very remote and business-like, devoid of embellishments. But the old buildings cling to a more romantic philosophy. I’ve used some three-dimensional effects. The corporate presence is there because it’s an important part of White Plains, but it’s obviously on another street. The big buildings have been pushed back.
I’ve tried to capture the personality of the city – a composite of thousands of families who lived their lives there and left their cumulative imprint on the community.
